4 small carrots (about 4"-5" long)
1 Bosch pear

Juice carrots, oranges and then pear. Follow with 2 tablespoons of water to flush the pulp*. Stir gently.

Not-So-Sweet Juice recipes

Being that I'm not a fan of sweet foods, when I started juicing I came up with these recipes for juices that will appeal to people like me that don't have a sweet tooth.

HALF-SPECTRUM JUICE
Named for the colors of the R-O-Y-G part of the color spectrum, this 5-serving fruit/veggie blend is a tart, refreshing drink.

RED - one red apple
ORANGE - one carrot
YELLOW - 1/2 lemon, with peel*
GREEN - one green apple, one celery stalk

Juice apples, carrot, lemon and then celery stalk. Follow with 2 tablespoons of water to flush the pulp*.

Makes about 1 1/4 cup.

TINA'S BREAKFAST
This not-so-sweet pick me up is a good start for your day, yet is still sweet enough to help you break the habit of sugary-sweet foods that you may be used to eating in the morning.

one red apple
one green apple
1/2 to one whole cucumber (depending on size and to your taste)
1/4 lemon, without peel

Juice apples, cucumber, then lemon. Follow with 2 tablespoons of water to flush the pulp*.

Makes about 2 cups.

* May not be recommended for your juicer machine. Read manufacturer's instructions.

One Month Stronger

Daddy - it has only been one month but it feels like it has been a lifetime since I last saw you. I am one month more broken-hearted, but also one month wiser for trying to find my own way through the world without your guidance to steer me. For that...for today...I am one month stronger.

Locks of Love - Please Sponsor me

I am participating in a Locks of Love donation of my hair. Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss. Will you sponsor me?

Locks of Love accepts a 10 inch minimum hair length. Locks of Love can use ponytails from 6 to 10 inches, but instead of being donated, the shorter hair is sold at fair market value to offset the organization's costs. I would prefer to donate my hair at the full 10 inches so that it can be used for prostheses. The prostheses help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling people to better face the world and their peers.

I am asking for YOUR sponsorship by collecting pledges for $1.00 per inch, or any increment you want to give. I will be collecting pledges until my hair gets to the 10 inches (or until I cannot stand wearing a ponytail any longer!). I already have about 7 inches of hair to donate, and think that I can meet my goal of 10 inches by August 14th. Sponsor me and give me motivation to keep my ponytail until then! If you're interested in sponsoring me, comment below, or email me at cmbower@att.net. Here's the info I will need from you:

  • Name
  • Address
  • City, State, Zip
  • email address
  • Pledge amount: $__.00 per inch or $__.00 flat dollar amount

March 2 Ponytail Progress - 10 inches total, about 7 to spare
