Present for Your Birthday

My Daddy

When You had gone
I started to look
For other people’s words
To mimic how I felt
But none could compare
To how I felt
About You.

When You had gone
And I heard the words
Fall from Momma’s mouth
I cried out for You
No Daddy
No one can compare
To You.

You told me You’d miss me
You told me You’d think of me
You told me You’d never meant
To have to leave me
And I understand
And I feel it because
Of You.

You rocked me each night
And You held me tight
And taught me about the world
And how to always do what’s right
Even when it hurt
And I do that now
For You.

I will take care of Momma
And the home that You built
And the family that You built
And my new family too
And it is my honor
Because I will always
Love You.

Your Daughter,
~Christine
